David White and James McManaman are co-owners of Absolute Abstract and have been life partners since 1990. Inspiration came from David's experience in art and framing stores and fine art galleries on both coasts. Realizing there was little choice in residential and commercial art (other than originals or framed posters), the concept of Absolute Abstract “The Art of Frameless Art” was born. David and James researched the market, and chose to carry art that is printed on the best quality linen-art canvas, which is UV protected, stretched over wide stretcher bars and built strong, to last a lifetime. The store concept is dual: be the "go-to" place for affordable decorative art; and, to provide a venue for up and coming artists to showcase their work in an approachable and relaxed setting. Absolute Abstract is a welcoming store, with cold, lavender scented towels served in the summer and hot mulled apple cider in the winter. You never have to ask for a price as everything is clearly marked, and you will always feel comfortable coming in "as you are". Absolute Abstract is in located in Philadelphia on 13th Street (between Walnut and Sansom streets), an area newly coined Midtown Village. James formed a Merchants Association of business owners in this great blossoming area of Center City Philadelphia, with the focus of continuing to improve the quality of the shopping, dining and living in this neighborhood of Center City. James & David are very involved in the community, giving back whenever possible. James is on the Board of the Independence Business Alliance - The LGBT Chamber of Commerce for the Philadelphia Region. Absolute Abstract is a member of the Center City Proprietors Association, The Gay Tourism Caucus, and has chosen two local charitieswhich they contribute to monthly.
